Red Lentil Pasta: A Higher-Protein Alternative to a Classic Carb

Ana

Pasta is arguably the most iconic food of all time. It's convenient to have, easy to cook, and tastes delicious. If you have a problem with that statement, your opinion on anything else doesn't matter. Anyone who disagrees is just trying to be different.

Unfortunately, a two-ounce serving of whole-wheat pasta has around 200 calories for six grams of protein and four grams of fiber. Not exactly healthy. Of course, there's nothing wrong with eating your favorite meals on occasion, but moderation kind of sucks. That's exactly why it's so important to have a diet that you don't hate. It should consist of healthy meals that actually taste good.

Red lentil pasta is one of my favorite anabolic alternatives. It's a wonderful substitute for the carb-filled comfort food that we all know and love. There are fewer calories for quite a bit more fiber and protein. Still, it's not necessarily high in protein, it's just higher in protein than traditional pasta.

When I first saw this pasta at the grocery store, I imagined that it did not taste like normal pasta. I had previously tried chickpea pasta, which also has more protein than the whole wheat option, and wasn't a huge fan of how it tasted. However, looking at the macros of lentil pasta, I was intrigued, so of course, I bought two boxes. Thankfully, the taste did not disappoint. I couldn't really differentiate between lentil and wheat pasta.

After trying red lentil pasta, I'm not sure I can go back. This alternative allows me to enjoy pasta more often without feeling guilty about it. A serving of this replacement pasta has eight more grams of protein for 10 less calories!

I truly hope that this convinced you to give it a try. After all, a diet is much easier to stick to if it doesn't feel like one. Part of that means experimenting with new foods and ingredients, and even making them your regular meals. Go buy some lentil pasta, cook with it, and let me know how it goes.
